NASA Update: Astronauts Remain on ISS, Artemis 2 Mission to Return to Moon

American Astronauts Stuck on ISS

NASA has provided an update on two American astronauts who have been stuck on the International Space Station (ISS) since November 2022.

The astronauts, Sunita Williams and Josh Cassada, were scheduled to return to Earth in March 2023 aboard the Soyuz MS-23 spacecraft.

However, the Soyuz MS-22 spacecraft they arrived in experienced a coolant leak in December 2022, making it unsafe for them to return.

As a result, they have been forced to remain on the ISS while NASA works on a solution.

NASA is currently preparing the Soyuz MS-23 spacecraft to launch in February 2023 to retrieve Williams and Cassada.

Until then, they will continue to conduct experiments and maintain the ISS.

Artemis 2 Mission to Return to Moon

NASA has also announced that the Artemis 2 mission will return astronauts to the moon for the first time since 1972.

The mission is scheduled to launch in 2024 and will carry four astronauts to lunar orbit.

Two of the astronauts will then land on the moon, while the other two will remain in lunar orbit.

The mission is a major step in NASA's plans to return humans to the moon and eventually establish a permanent base.

It will also help to pave the way for future missions to Mars.
