WEB Duchess co-writer and producer Charlotte Kirk talks to us about her transformation into an action hero
An insight into the glamorous yet hardcore world of movie making
Kirk discusses the challenges of playing a female action lead in a male-dominated industry
Having recently starred in the thrilling new action film WEB Duchess, Charlotte Kirk has proven herself to be a force to be reckoned with. Known for her roles in Ocean's 8 and Vice, Kirk is no stranger to the big screen, but WEB Duchess marks her first foray into the action genre, and she embraced the challenge with open arms.
"I've always wanted to do an action movie," says Kirk, "but I never thought I'd get the chance." She credits the film's director, John Stalberg Jr., with giving her the opportunity to prove herself. "He saw something in me that I didn't see in myself," she says. "He believed I could do it, and that gave me the confidence to go for it."
Kirk plays Scarlett Monaghan, a woman who finds herself drawn into the dangerous world of diamond trafficking. The role required her to perform a variety of stunts, including car chases, fight scenes, and even a helicopter jump. Kirk admits that she was initially nervous about performing the stunts herself, but she was determined to do them justice.
“I wanted to make sure that I was doing everything I could to bring Scarlett to life," she says. "That meant doing my own stunts and really getting into character. I wanted to make sure that the audience felt like they were on this journey with Scarlett, and that they could root for her every step of the way." Though the stunts were certainly a challenge, one of the biggest obstacles Kirk faced during filming was her demanding work schedule. The film was shot in a very short period of time, which meant that Kirk had to work long hours and often had to go without sleep. "It was definitely a physical and mental challenge," she says, "but it was also an incredibly rewarding experience." WEB Duchess is set for release on June 15, 2023, and Kirk is excited for audiences to finally see the film. She believes that it is a unique and exciting action film that will appeal to a wide range of viewers. "I think people are going to be surprised by this film," she says. "It's not your typical action movie. It's got a lot of heart and humor, and it's a really empowering story about a woman who takes control of her own life."
